History
Born on the banks of the Connecticut River, South Windsor was founded by English settlers in 1633. Constructed around and sustained by agriculture, the Town grew around (historic) Main Street, which prospered into an active center of commerce.
Demographics
A community rich in diversity where over 50% of the Town’s population fall in the prime adult employment age of 25-64. Home Depot Distribution Facility
A 421,000 square foot distribution facility located on 46 acres of land along route 5 and Ellington Road. Part of the facility’s operations will include the delivery of materials by freight train. Two spur tracks were constructed, one of which is inside the building.
The new warehouse is part of their investment strategy to speed up delivery to customers and stores, eventually reaching 90% of their customers with same day/next day delivery.
The South Windsor Town Council approved a seven-year, estimated $2.7 million, tax abatement. In return, Home Depot will invested approximately $50 million into the distribution center.
